This is because the clear patches have a plastic face that is stiffer than the more flexible fabric found on the opaque patches. In our experience, clear Tenacious Tape will start to peel off of a down jacket or sleeping bag in 1-2 years, whereas opaque patches will last much longer. At the time of this writing in 2026, Nick has some patches on a pair of down booties that are going on \u003cem\u003e13 years\u003c\/em\u003e and just starting to peel up around the edges.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e*It's harder for a patch to stick well to coarser fabric like Xpac or Ecopak, so don't expect the same longevity on a bike bag as you'll get on a sleeping bag or down jacket.
